It rarely happens all at once. First your VPN gets slower, then certain servers stop working, then whole regions become unavailable, and eventually it just stops connecting entirely. This is the pattern commercial VPN users have been living through in country after country as their providers get progressively blocked. If you are already noticing degraded performance from your current VPN service the trajectory is clear. A private VPN on your own VPS is not subject to that same progressive targeting because it is not a known commercial product. $40 once for setup in crypto, then only your hosting costs.
